Homemade Sazon Seasoning

I grew up in a multi-cultural home and was raised eating different food staples from many different cultures and countries. Goya's Sazón seasoning was a must have staple in the kitchen for our Puerto Rican and Cuban dishes. The problem with Goya's Sazón is that it contains MSG, which is extremely bad for your health and can cause gastrointestinal distress. Once I learned how bad MSG can be, I wanted to remove it from the ingredients in my food so I now check labels to make sure it's not hidden in the foods I buy. I love the taste of sazón, as it adds such a delicious flavor to my food so I had to make my own! It is so easy to make, so delicious, and a perfect addition to your Spanish dishes without the toxic ingredients!!

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon himalayan pink salt or high quality sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon coriander
  • 1 tablespoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients together and store in an airtight container! (I used an old glass seasoning bottle) 
  2. Add to any of your favorite dishes!! It's that easy!!


Recipe Tip: 2 teaspoons of this mixture is equivalent to one package of store bought Sazón.
