Treat Illness Naturally With These Home Remedies

No one likes being sick but sometimes sickness is unavoidable no matter how much you try to prevent it. While OTC medications have a place in medicine, they are often times overused, unnecessary, and sometimes toxic. I know sometimes it can be much easier to take an OTC for a quick fix and fast relief but OTC medications are never meant to fix the underlying issue that is going on that made you sick or not feel well in the first place. OTC medications are great for fast relief but they mask the root of the issue and this can cause more harm than good in the long run. The most beneficial way to deal with illness is to allow the human body to do its thing and fight off infection without or with little interference. The human body can do wonderful things if we let it. Allowing the body to fight infection naturally also helps boosts the immune system and can make the next time you’re sick much less painful. I always have a pretty full arsenal of natural remedies in my medicine cabinet for when we get sick. Read More

Top 8 Ways to Prevent Getting Sick

Food is medicine. Eat whole, real foods. Stay away from processed, greasy foods. Reading labels is key! Always check ingredients in labels, which can tell you which products have added sugar and chemicals that you may not have been aware of. Some of the food you may be eating might not even be food! It is just a bunch of chemicals put together to look like food. As a rule of thumb, try to limit your products to contain 5 ingredients or less and ingredients you recognize. Learning how to read labels is a skill and it can take time to learn but it's worth it!  Read More

Vitamin K Shot For Newborns 101

There are a few things that happen after giving birth that sometimes fall under the radar and aren't talked about as much, probably because they are just so routine that they just happen so fast without you even blinking an eye. In a typical vaginal hospital birth, the baby comes out and the nurse immediately covers the baby in a warm towel or blanket, the umbilical cord gets cut, there may have been some suctioning of the mouth and nose, the nurse will weigh your baby and measure the baby's length and head circumference, and then comes the antibiotic eye drops and the vitamin K injection.  Read More

My First Midwife Appointment Experience

Earlier this week, I had my first official midwife appointment! I had gone to a group orientation back in July, which is where I first fell in love with this midwife group but this was my first real appointment getting down to baby business! Up until this appointment, I had confirmed my pregnancy with an OB and went for an early 9 week ultrasound (mostly because I wanted to confirm that there was only one baby this time). I was curious to compare and contract my experience this time with an OB and my midwife group so I scheduled my 11 week appointment with my OB and with the midwives on the same day! Read More

Why I’m Choosing a Midwife Instead of an OB for My Pregnancy and Labor

In my first pregnancy with my twin boys, I was 21 years old living overseas in Okinawa, Japan with my husband who was serving active duty in the Marine Corps. I didn’t really have much of a choice of where I gave birth, as there was only one military hospital. Through TriCare, I was assigned an OB and all of my appointments were in that one hospital. My OB was super sweet and made me feel comfortable the entire pregnancy. Read More

What Autism Is For Us

I feel a little uneasy and uncomfortable when I hear other people say things like, “oh, just let your kid be a kid” “a little ice cream won’t hurt” “everything causes cancer, I’m not going to be a mom who shelters my kid from it all” “I’m so tired of trying to be this perfect mom. I’m done.” It kind of triggers something inside because I used to be that mom. Read More

8 Ways to Treat Eating as an Act of Self Love ♥

Okay so you might not have thought about this before but did you know that eating can be a huge act of self love? The food you put into your body is setting the tone for your day, your vibe, your energy, your health, and everything to come so why shouldn't it be treated as an act of self-love? Dangerous Chemicals That Are Hiding In Your Every Day Products

Today, we are exposed to over 80,000 chemicals that pollute our air, our drinking water, the food we eat, beauty products and many other household products that we use every day. Chronic exposures to these chemicals can wreak havoc on our bodies and cause a long list of adverse health conditions. Since most of our food and products are full of these chemicals, it is so much harder to avoid being negatively affected by them than it is to feel safe using them. So what kind of chemicals am I talking about and what can you do to limit your exposure? Read More
